Why people are switching to this kit
- Hooks are clearly marked with capacity — no guessing at the rating.
- Connector design lets you fit the hook without smashing pins in with a hammer.
- Works across common trailer safety chain setups from small vans to heavy caravans.
- Supplied with step-by-step install guidance in plain English.
- Backed by real approvals, not “looks strong, mate.”
Which kit do I need?
| Kit | Trailer ATM | Safety Chain Size | Product Code |
|---|---|---|---|
| Light Trailer – Grade 80 | Up to 2,000kg | 8mm chain | 103506 |
| Heavy Trailer – Grade 80 | Up to 4,000kg | 10mm or 13mm chain | 103508 |
These kits are designed to connect your safety chains to the towbar in a way that’s both physically secure and actually traceable back to certification.
Attaching Hooks to the Trailer Chain (Instead of the Vehicle)
Ensure your safety chain anchor points on the towbar can accommodate the hook’s size. If the hole isn’t big enough, use traditional hammerlocks to attach to the towbar’s anchor points—this ensures there’s enough room for the hook. Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered:
| Kit Name | Extra Connectors Required | Size Requirement |
|---|---|---|
| Light Trailer | 2 | Black & Orange – Chain Connector |
| Heavy Trailer | 2 | Black & Orange – Chain Connector |
Towing above 3,500kg ATM?
If your trailer has an ATM above 3,500kg, it’s usually fitted with short link lifting chain (not standard trailer safety chain). That chain has very tight, heavy links. The links are so short that the hook physically can’t seat directly on the chain.
The fix is simple and compliant: install 10mm Omega Links (Product Code: 104110) between the lifting chain and the hook. The Omega Link becomes the rated interface point.
You will need to order 2 × Omega Links, one for each safety chain.
| Your Setup | You Need | Qty | Code |
|---|---|---|---|
| ATM > 3,500kg using short link lifting chain | 10mm Omega Link | 2 × (one per chain) | 104110 |
National compliance
This system is designed to keep you legal and safe in every Australian state and territory. It’s not a “QLD thing” or a “NSW thing.” It’s built around ADR 62/02 and the guidance the states follow.
How it works (quick look)
Does this meet Circular 0-1-3?
Yes. The kit is aligned with Circular 0-1-3 (Administrator of Vehicle Standards guidance), and built to satisfy ADR 62/02 plus relevant AS/NZS requirements.
What do I actually get in the kit?
Certified hooks, reusable connectors, installation guidance, and our exclusive compliance sticker showing the approval info.
Do I need anything else?
If your trailer ATM is above 3,500kg and you're on short link lifting chain, you will also need 2 × 10mm Omega Links (product code 104110). One per chain.
What is the most I can tow with them?
Our kit is designed for a range of towing capacities, with specific hooks tailored for different weights. The towing capacity is clearly stamped on each hook for your reference.
What size chain do they fit?
Our Safety Chain Hook Kit is engineered with a slimline design to snugly fit trailer chains. It has been tested with all available chains currently in Australia.
Are hooks legal for towing a caravan?
Absolutely! Our Vehicle & Trailer Safety Chain Hook Kit is Govt. CTA Approved to ADR 62/02, ensuring it complies with Australian legal standards for safe towing of all trailer types.
Can I install them differently than the instructions?
They are perfectly safe to attach to the chain and hook onto the vehicle, but we suggest getting an additional two hammerlocks of the next size up so the hook has something to hook through on the car.
What Sets Our Kit Apart?
With its unique attributes, thorough testing, and Govt. CTA endorsement: this kit is your passport to a secure and serene towing journey.
What distinguishes this kit in terms of legal compliance?
Our Vehicle & Trailer Safety Chain Hook Kit is the only one in Australia with a Govt. CTA approval to ADR 62/02, showcasing its adherence to legal and safety standards.
