Practical Towing Fitment
Designed to connect safety chains to the towbar for practical towing use across Australia.
Fitment Options
Standard Setup: Fitting to the Vehicle Towbar
The standard setup is to fit the hook kit to the vehicle towbar anchor point, then connect your trailer safety chain to the hook.
- Kits are designed to connect safety chains to the towbar.
- Check that your towbar anchor points can accept the hook size.
- Light Trailer kit requires an 11mm hole.
- Heavy Trailer kit requires a 13mm hole.
Important: Do not assume every towbar anchor point will accept the connector size without checking.
Optional Setup: Fitting the Hook to the Trailer Chain
Some customers prefer to fit the certified hook to the trailer safety chain, then hook back onto the vehicle towbar anchor point.
For this setup, you will need additional chain connectors to attach the certified hook assembly to the trailer safety chain.

Important: This accessory setup is only required if you want the hook fitted to the trailer chain.
Trailers Above 3,500kg ATM
If your trailer ATM is above 3,500kg and it uses short link lifting chain, the hook may not seat directly on the chain.
In this case, use 2 Ă— 10mm Omega Links, one per safety chain.

FAQs
1. Can I add the two hook ratings together?
No. The hook ratings are not added together.
Each safety chain and each hook must be suitable for the trailer’s full ATM on its own. For example, a 2,000kg rated hook kit is suitable for trailers up to 2,000kg ATM. It does not become suitable for a 4,000kg trailer simply because two hooks are fitted.
For a 4,000kg trailer or caravan, the Heavy Trailer Kit is required.
2. Which kit do I need for my trailer or caravan?
Select the kit based on your trailer or caravan’s ATM, not the load you normally carry.
Light Trailer Kit: Suitable for trailers up to 2,000kg ATM.
Heavy Trailer Kit: Suitable for trailers up to 4,000kg ATM.
Your ATM can usually be found on the trailer compliance plate. When selecting towing safety components, always work from the trailer’s maximum rated ATM.
3. Are these hooks legal for road use in Australia?
Yes. The Vehicle & Trailer Safety Chain Hook Kits have been assessed for towing use and hold Road Vehicle Component Type Approval for compliance with ADR 62/02 Mechanical Connections Between Vehicles.
This means the product has been approved as a road vehicle component for its intended towing application, giving you a clear compliance pathway compared with generic hooks or unapproved alternatives.
All orders of this product placed with Conveying & Hoisting Solutions will be sent an official Road Vehicle Regulator Approval Certificate document proving compliance for use on Australian roads.
4. Will I receive compliance documentation?
Yes. Orders placed with Conveying & Hoisting Solutions will be sent an official Road Vehicle Regulator Approval Certificate document for this product.
The approval certificate confirms that the component has been granted component type approval under section 177 of the Road Vehicle Standards Rules 2019 and fully complies with the applicable national road vehicle standards.
5. Can I install the kit myself?
Yes. The kit is designed to be user installable and includes the required hooks and fitting hardware.
The hooks should be fitted correctly to suitable trailer safety chain connection points, and the correct kit must be selected for your trailer ATM.
6. Why use these hooks instead of standard D shackles?
D shackles are commonly used, but these hook kits are designed to make connecting and disconnecting your safety chains faster, easier, and cleaner, especially when access under the vehicle is awkward.
They are particularly useful for caravans, trailers, 4WDs, and setups where the chain connection point is hard to reach. They also provide the benefit of a dedicated towing product with Road Vehicle Regulator approval for the application.
What is the most I can tow with them?
Our kit is designed for a range of towing capacities, with specific hooks tailored for different weights. The towing capacity is clearly stamped on each hook for your reference.
What size chain do they fit?
Our Safety Chain Hook Kit is engineered with a slimline design to snugly fit trailer chains. It has been tested with all available chains currently in Australia.
Are hooks legal for towing a caravan?
Absolutely! Our Vehicle & Trailer Safety Chain Hook Kit is Govt. CTA Approved to ADR 62/02, ensuring it complies with Australian legal standards for safe towing of all trailer types.
Can I install them differently than the instructions?
They are perfectly safe to attach to the chain and hook onto the vehicle, but we suggest getting an additional two hammerlocks of the next size up so the hook has something to hook through on the car.
What Sets Our Kit Apart?
With its unique attributes, thorough testing, and Govt. CTA endorsement: this kit is your passport to a secure and serene towing journey.
What distinguishes this kit in terms of legal compliance?
Our Vehicle & Trailer Safety Chain Hook Kit is the only one in Australia with a Govt. CTA approval to ADR 62/02, showcasing its adherence to legal and safety standards.
Is the installation process user-friendly?
Absolutely! The kit includes visual instructions ensuring a hassle-free setup, making it user-friendly even for individuals new to towing.
How does the Slimline Design benefit me?
The Slimline Design ensures a snug fit on trailer chains, promoting a secure connection and enhancing safety during towing.
