The Recovery Towing Strop is built on a UHMWPE core engineered for maximum tensile strength with very low elongation (1–3%), reducing recoil as the strop approaches its rated breaking strength. A tightly braided polyester outer sheath shields the core against abrasion, UV and environmental wear, significantly extending service life.
Designed for controlled, straight-line pulls — winching and towing of 4x4s, industrial vehicles and heavy haulage recovery. A strop is not a snatch strap: where shock-load stretch is required, use a nylon snatch strap instead. Not to be used for lifting.
- UHMWPE core — 15x stronger than steel by weight
- Very low stretch (1–3%) for controlled recovery
- Resistant to abrasion, wear and fatigue — ideal for heavy-duty applications
- Very low moisture absorption — suited to wet and marine environments
- High chemical resistance against most acids, alkalis, ethers and bleaches
- Reinforced, sleeved soft eyes at each end with ID tag and rated capacity

Choosing the right strop
The recommended minimum breaking strength (MBS) of the strop should be 2–3 times the Gross Vehicle Mass (GVM) of the vehicle being recovered — and 3–5 times in uncertain conditions. As a guide: a 30T strop suits 4–15T vehicles in a light bog, a 100T strop suits 30–50T vehicles, and a 300T strop covers 100–150T heavy haulage recovery. Terrain, slope and bogging depth all increase the required pulling force — refer to the Austlift user manual for the full recovery reference chart.
Safety: Never attach a recovery strop to a tow ball, tie-down point or bull bar. Only connect to rated recovery points, drape a dampener over the centre of the strop during use, and keep all bystanders well clear of the recovery path.
